What Is 17-0?

17-0 is a free browser game where you draft a roster of pro football legends from across every era, then simulate a full season to see if your team can do the one thing almost no team ever has: finish undefeated.

The name is a reference to the one number every football fan understands. A modern pro season is 17 games. Going 17-0 means a flawless run — no losses, no off nights, no bad bounces. Since the 1972 Dolphins, the closest call was the 2007 Patriots, who went 18-0 before losing Super Bowl XLII. That near-miss is the emotional core of this game: everyone knows how hard perfection is, and 17-0 lets you chase it yourself by assembling the greatest team in football history and testing it against a full schedule.

You are not managing a single franchise or a single season. You are drafting across all of football history — a quarterback from one dynasty, a pass rusher from another decade, a shutdown corner from a completely different era — and welding them into one all-time roster. Then the simulation tells you, week by week, whether the team you built is actually good enough to run the table.

How to Play

A full game takes about two minutes. There is nothing to install and no account required — you can start drafting the moment the page loads.

• Draft 10 players over 10 rounds. Each round, the game spins up a random franchise-and-era combination and shows you that team's standout players. You pick one to add to your roster.
• Cover every position. Your roster needs a quarterback, running back, a wide receiver, a tight end, offensive line, and a full defense. You can filter each spin by the position you still need, or take the best player available and build around them.
• Spend your respins wisely. In Classic and Pro Scout you get two respins per game (the Daily Eye Test and Challenge Mode have none). If a round offers nothing you want, you can reroll — but only twice, so save them for when it matters.
• Simulate the season. Once all 10 picks are in, the game plays out a 17-game schedule and shows you the result: a final record, a playoff run, and — if you built it right — a perfect 17-0 championship.

How the Simulation Works

The result is not random. Every player carries a rating that reflects how dominant they were at their peak, and the season engine combines those ratings into a team strength that determines your win probability in each game. A handful of factors decide whether you go undefeated:

Overall talent

The baseline is simple: better players win more games. A roster stacked with all-time greats will beat a roster of merely good players most weeks. But raw talent alone will not get you to 17-0.

Positional value

Not every position moves the needle equally. A generational quarterback or a game-wrecking pass rusher shifts more outcomes than an average starter at a lower-leverage spot. Knowing which positions to prioritize is a big part of the skill.

Roster balance and the weak-link penalty

A team is only as strong as its softest spot. Loading up on offense while ignoring your secondary leaves a hole that good opponents will exploit — the engine applies a penalty when your roster has an obvious weakness. Going undefeated rewards balance, not just a few superstars.

Chemistry

The engine rewards one specific kind of fit: a quarterback paired with a wide receiver or tight end from the same franchise and the same era. Each such pass catcher adds 2 points of team strength, so a quarterback with one matching receiver and one matching tight end earns up to +4. It is a small edge, but it is the kind of connection the best offenses in football history had.

Game Modes

• Classic. Every player's ratings and stats are visible while you draft. Good for learning the game and for players who like the numbers in front of them.
• Pro Scout. Ratings and stats are hidden. You draft on name, era, and reputation alone — a pure test of whether you actually know football. This is where the phrase "prove you know ball" comes from.
• Daily Eye Test. A once-a-day shared challenge. Everyone gets the same spins that day, ratings and stats are hidden as in Pro Scout mode, and there are no respins. Your result goes on that day's own leaderboard.
• Challenge a Friend. Finished a great roster? Send it to a friend as a head-to-head challenge and see who builds the better team. This is the fastest way to settle a "who's the real football fan" argument.

Strategy: How to Actually Go 17-0

Perfection is hard on purpose. A few principles separate the rosters that run the table from the ones that stumble in Week 11:

• Draft for balance before you chase big names — an elite offense with a leaky defense rarely goes undefeated.
• Prioritize the highest-leverage positions early, while the best players are still on the board.
• Hold your respins for rounds where every option is genuinely weak, not for rounds where you simply want a specific name.
• In Pro Scout mode, lean on era and role rather than trying to remember exact stat lines — reputation is usually a reliable guide.
